OUR VISION

Our vision is to fulfill the Great Commission by knowing God, growing in His grace, and going to our community, and   beyond, with the gospel message of Jesus Christ.

Knowing, Growing and Going!

How can I know for sure that

I am going to heaven?

OUR BELIEFS

THE BIBLE

We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and the product of Holy Spirit controlled men. It is a perfect treasure of divine instruction. It is therefore without error and the only infallible standard for all human conduct, creeds and spiritual questions.  II Timothy 3:16,17; II Peter 1:19-21

GOD

We believe there is one and only one living and true God. He is an intelligent, spiritual, and personal Being. He is the Creator, Redeemer, Preserver and Ruler of the universe. God is infinite in holiness and all other perfections. God is all powerful, all knowing and all present. His perfect knowledge extends to all things, past, present, and future, including the future decisions of His free creatures. To Him we owe the highest love, reverence and obedience. The eternal triune God reveals Himself to us as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, but without division of nature, essence or being.  Gen 1:1; Deut. 6:4; Ephesians 4:6; 1 John 5:7

JESUS CHRIST

We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God. In His incarnation He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. Jesus perfectly revealed and did the will of God, taking upon Himself human nature and identifying Himself completely with mankind yet without sin. He honored the divine law by His obedience and in His substitutionary death on the cross He made provision for the redemption of mankind from sin. He was raised from the dead with a glorified body and appeared to His disciples and many others. He ascended into heaven and is now exalted at the right of God as our Mediator, and through Him is effected the reconciliation between God and man. He will return to the world in power and glory to judge the world and consummate His redemptive mission.                    John 1:1-2, 14; Romans 5:8-11; Acts 1:9-11

MANKIND

We believe that man is the special creation of God, made in His own image. He created them male and female as the crowning work of His creation. The gift of gender is thus part of the goodness of God's creation. In the beginning man was innocent of sin and was endowed by his Creator with freedom of choice. We believe that all mankind fell with Adam, so then everyone is born into the bondage of sin. We cannot save ourselves. Despite our unworthiness, God loves each of us and wants us to be reconciled to Him.  Romans 3:23; Romans 5:12; John 3:16

SALVATION

We believe that salvation is the great spiritual work of God, and is offered freely to all who will accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. It is divinely initiated and wholly by grace thru the work of Jesus Christ at Calvary. His death was the substitute for our sins, and His shed blood fully satisfied the just demands of a holy and righteous God. Each individual must respond by repentance and faith. There is no salvation apart from personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord.

John 14:6; Romans 10:13; Ephesians 2:8-9

THE CHURCH

A New Testament Church of the Lord Jesus Christ is an autonomous local congregation of baptized believers, associated by covenant in faith and fellowship of the gospel; governed by His laws, exercising the gifts, rights and privileges invested in them by His Word, and seeking to take the gospel to the ends of the earth. It's scriptural officers are pastors and deacons.

Acts 2:41-47;6:3-6;13:1-3;20:28; 1 Cor. 1:2; 7:17; Eph. 1:22-23; 2:19-22;5:22-32; Col. 1:18; 1 Peter 5:1-4

EVANGELISM AND DISCIPLESHIP

We believe that God's Mission is reconciling fallen mankind to Himself, through redemption, which is in Jesus Christ. We believe that Biblical Ministry is all that we do to fulfill the Mission of God. Therefore, it is the duty and privilege of every follower of Christ, and of every church, to endeavor to make disciples of all nations. The new birth of man's spirit by God's Holy Spirit means the birth of love for others. The Lord Jesus Christ has commanded the preaching of the gospel to all nations. It is the mission of every child of God to seek constantly to win the lost to Christ and to raise those converts spiritually through the ministry of discipleship.  Matthew 9:37-38; 28:18-20; Mark 16:15; Luke 24:46-48; John 15:16; 20:21; Acts 1:8; Eph 4:11-16

OUR HISTORY

KENDRICK BAPTIST CHURCH

The Friendship Baptist Church, which was later changed to Kendrick Baptist Church, was organized in the home of Mrs. Dora Shealy on August 21, 1932 with 76 present. The first pastor was Pastor Eugene Vining. The first preaching service was held on August 7, 1932 in the Kendrick Methodist Church. The church was moved to Chisena's Store in November 1932, and the church joined the Marion Baptist Association on November 16, 1932. The old Fellowship School building was purchased for $75 in January 1933, and the materials were used to construct a new church building. A plot of land was donated by Mr and Mrs J. W. Lyles, and the new church was located about a mile north of our present location. At first, services were held every other Sunday. Pastor Vining was also pastor of Fellowship Baptist Church. He would preach at Friendship one Sunday and Fellowship the next. In 1935 the name of the church was changed to Kendrick Baptist Church.

In 1947, while Victor Voelker was pastor, Mr and Mrs E. C. Haltiwanger gave the present property to be used as a church. This building had been constructed in 1911 and was first used as a feed store and post office. During those years a grist mill was located near the front entrance of the auditorium. After the Haltiwangers bought it they used the present auditorium as a barn. The building was remodeled and Kendrick Baptist Church moved into it's present home on October 17, 1947. The baptistry was completed at this time and Mary Cree of Texas painted the baptistry scene. The 2 classrooms at the front of the church, and the restrooms were added in 1951.

The first portion of the present Educational building was completed in March 1953. At first, it consisted of the classrooms with a porch. As the church grew and more space was needed the porch was enclosed to make what is now the Fellowship Hall. In the fall of 1971 central heat and air were installed in the Fellowship Hall. In the summer of 1972 the window air conditioning units in the Auditorium were replaced with central heat and air.

In 1980, the house next door to the church was purchased and remodeled to be the church pastorium. In 1999, the church purchased the 15 acres across the street from the church. The mortgage on the property was paid off in just 3 years, and the church burned the mortgage on Easter Sunday morning March 31, 2002.

In August of 2018 the church called Pastor David Butts to be their pastor. We are living in an exciting generation. There has never been a time in humane history when the church could take the gospel to more people with more methods than today. And we believe that the most exciting chapter for Kendrick Baptist Church is yet to be written. When the Lord comes back to this earth again we want Him to find us Faithful and doing Biblical Ministry.
